Contraction Timer

A simple, private contraction timer. Tap to start and stop each contraction; it tracks duration and frequency and flags the 5-1-1 pattern.

The 5-1-1 rule: contractions about 5 minutes apart, each lasting 1 minute, sustained for 1 hour often means it’s time to call your provider or head in. Follow your own provider’s instructions, and go sooner if your waters break or you’re worried.

Remember: This is an estimate, not medical advice. Dates and figures are general guidance — every pregnancy is different. Your healthcare provider’s assessment, especially from an early ultrasound, always takes priority. Always speak with your provider about your pregnancy.

Common questions

How do I time contractions?

Tap “Start” when a contraction begins and “Stop” when it ends. The timer records how long each one lasts (duration) and the time from the start of one to the start of the next (frequency).

What is the 5-1-1 rule?

A common guideline for first-time labour: contractions about 5 minutes apart, each lasting around 1 minute, sustained for at least 1 hour. Many providers suggest heading in around then — but always follow your own provider’s instructions.

When should I call my provider or go in sooner?

Call right away if your waters break, you have bleeding, reduced baby movements, severe pain, or you simply feel something’s wrong — regardless of the timer. If you’ve had a fast labour before or live far away, go sooner.
