Your baby this week

A waxy white layer called vernix caseosa now coats your baby’s skin, protecting it from the amniotic fluid. The senses — smell, taste, hearing, sight and touch — are developing in the brain.

Your body & how you might feel

Round-ligament pain — sharp twinges on the sides of your belly — can come and go as everything stretches. You may notice skin darkening, like the linea nigra.

  • Round-ligament pain
  • Skin pigmentation changes

  • Hip pain

This week’s tip: Stand up slowly to avoid dizziness — your blood pressure is naturally lower in the second trimester.

A gentle reminder: This is an estimate, not medical advice. Dates and figures are general guidance — every pregnancy is different. Your healthcare provider’s assessment, especially from an early ultrasound, always takes priority. Always speak with your provider about your pregnancy.
